In 1928 Arthur Bursens took over family business of producing musical machines from his father, Joseph Bursens, in the town of Hoboken, Belgium, where the elder Bursen had his factory. With the addition of a partner, Gustav Roels, Arthur reinvented the firm as ARBURO- a play on the first letters of his and Gustav’s last names. The company became one of the first factories in Europe to use paper rolls in their musical machines.
