JOHN LENNON (English, 1940-1980), Erotic 1, from the Bag One Portfolio, c.1970, Signed in pencil and numbered 202/300 in pencil, Sheet 22" x 30", Framed behind glass. Note: In 1969, Lennon as a wedding gift for Yoko drew the portfolio as a chronicle of their wedding ceremony, honeymoon, and their "bed-in" spectacle for world peace. The "Bag One" series, which contains several erotic sketches, was first published and exhibited on January 14, 1970, at the London Art Gallery. On January 16th, the sketches were seized by Scotland Yard police following complaints of obscenity by members of the public. The portfolio, which contains 14 pieces, was published in a limited edition of 300 lithographs.
